Winston-Salem called the “Twin City” and “City of the Arts and Innovation” – Located in Forsyth County and the county seat, the estimated population in 2015 was 241,218. Making Winston Salem the second largest municipality in the Piedmont Triad region and the fifth largest city in North Carolina. Situated in the northwest Piedmont area of North Carolina, midway between Blue Ridge and Great Smoky mountains to the west and the Atlantic beaches and Outer banks to the east. The city takes up 132.4 square miles. A visit to the city of Winton Salem is a unique blend of past, present and future. Its roots date back to 1753, when Moravians, a religious group from Eastern Europe, settled in the area and established the town of Salem. A century later, the nearby city of Winston became a bustling industrial center with strong ties to textiles and tobacco. In 1913, Salem and Winston decided to merge and became one and Winston-Salem was born. Although traditionally associated with the textile and tobacco industries, Winston Salem has been transforming itself to be a leader in the nanotech, high-tech and bio-tech fields. The city is a great patron of the arts, founding the first arts council in the United States in 1949. Old Salem – 18th Century Moravian Village ~ In the middle of downtown, you can step back in time to the quieter pace of the 18th century Moravian village of Old Salem Museums & Gardens, one of America’s most authentic colonial sites. Old Salem is alive with dining, shopping, gardens and year round activities.

Reynolda House Museum of American Art ~ The house was a home to two generations of the R. J. Reynolds tobacco family. Built in 1917, many rooms are restored with original period furnishing. Reynolda House opened to the public in 1965 as a center for arts and education.

Reynolda Village ~ Adjacent to Wake Forest University and Reynolda House Museum of American Art is Reynolda Village. Shops, restaurants and offices are now housed in buildings that once support the 1,067 acre estate of the R. J. Reynolds family.
